Marching into Spring

So, here we are.  Its March already.  Just where has the time gone?  For me, its been passed mainly in bed, sleeping - or attempting to do so.  Its a lonely business being unwell, but one made all the better by online window shopping!  Unfortunately, my hands have been too sore to get up to much crocheting since my last post, but the new painkillers should kick in properly soon and I'll be right back to making cute treats for myself and my friends.

I was extremely cheered up by the beautiful earrings I received from Jessie Jumbles.  If you've not checked out her website (www.jessiejumbles.com) yet, you really are missing out!  'Jessie's' main theme is beautiful vintage-inspired fabric covered buttons made into cute jewellery and accessories.  I've been lucky enough to run into her stall, at the Brighton Makers' Boutique (www.makersboutique.co.uk) in the past and found it difficult to walk away with just one purchase!  Incidentally, 'Jessie' is now the Market Manager of the Makers' Boutique, so she clearly must know what she's doing!  The earrings she made for me are so gorgeous I could swoon all day;  lovely nautical-style navy blue studs with a white anchor.  Her goodies really are different and, at such reasonable prices, gifts for all occasions and budgets can be found.  'Jessie' also sells fabulous vintage china, annuals and other nick-nacks for those that just don't do jewellery.  I really would recommend checking her site out and, if you can, hop-footing down to the next Makers' Boutique.

I'm utterly obsessed with BBC3's Being Human.  I've always loved all things vampire (at least, until the Twilight franchise was born, that is), but Being Human's Hal is a whole new kind of hot!  Of course, I watch it for the story-lines too and not just to perve on Damian Molony...  Honestly.  If you've not watched it before, you're probably too late, as its almost the finale of the last series.  However, I'm sure its available on Amazon and, I'm also sure, the entire box-set will be winging its way onto my bank bill sometime soon.  Another thing I've been watching, well re-watching, to pass the time is the Harry Potter series.  I know I'm biased from all the hours I put into its literary analysis, but I really did forget how good the films are.  I'm still too spaced out to concentrate long enough to read a whole book, which is why the blog posts have been few and far between, but Harry Potter is so easy to keep up with, especially as we all know the story so well.

I've also been trying to cheer myself up with some girly talons from Nazila Love Glamour (nazilaloveglamour.com).  The 'claw' look is said to be all the rage this coming season and Nazila's nails can now be found in River Island, as well as online and on the hands of many a celeb.  I first spotted their nail products on Amazon and, impractical as they may be, really needed to try some for myself.  Having tried the Nazila Love Glamour Playful false nails, I can only say I wish I was well enough to go somewhere glamorous enough to wear them - I don't think hospital appointments quite cut the glam factor!  Still, they were fun to try and so cute.  The Playful nails come as a pack of 24, so its easy to mix and match to style them your way.  Each nail has a clear tip and either a gold or silver glitter base.  Some have love-hearts on, others skulls wearing bows  - I kid you not.  My verdict is that these look fab, but had probably best stay back in their box until I'm well enough to spend the night dancing in my best heels.

I received a new iPhone case from Twitter trader Sparkilicious (www.twitter.com/Spark_ilicious) this week.  Like the earrings, from Jessie Jumbles, this was a custom order.  Unfortunately, the iPhone case was still wet when it arrived and I've been unable to pop it onto my phone yet, but its very pretty nevertheless.  'Sparkilicious' specialises in glitzing up your everyday objects.  Phone cases are her speciality, but she has been known to bejazzle Converse and birthday cards before.  You name it, she'll make it sparkly.  If you are a fan of all things diamante, she is the girl for you.

So, spring has sprung.  It may still feel like the arctic, but if The Day After Tomorrow taught us one thing it was that we can't predict the weather.  This month we celebrate Mothers' Day and Easter.  If I were you, I'd try my best not to forget the former and maybe give Jessie Jumbles a browse.  Unfortunately, I'm not well enough to get out and about shopping for either occasion, but I'm sure the internet will reveal all I need and, if my hands start feeling a bit better, I plan to crochet some Easter presents...  Watch this space.

Thank you for reading.  Until next time.

Hello Again, My Lovelies...

Huge apologies, lovelies, but I've just not been able to update my blog since last time.  I genuinely believe I may have the worst luck in the world, and in the chances between chronic pain, fatigue, dizziness, vomming, naps, blood tests, faints, nosebleeds, and a change in my prescription painkillers (and, subsequent, drug withdrawal), I've been left with no internet connection   Surely, things can only get better?

My current cocktail of high strength painkillers are being switched over the next eight weeks to another concoction, thought to be more suited to my current predicament.  Unfortunately, it is really rather hard to predict how well I will be, so I'm unsure how often I will be able to write.  I'm hoping to be able to do so more often than not, partly just to keep my brain active while I'm too poorly to work!

Since we last met, I've received some super cute quirky nail extensions, from Nazila Love Glamour and I cannot wait to try them out.  There is nothing I don't love about them - sparkles, skulls, love-hearts and bows in a simple red, white and black pallette with a touch of gold and silver glitter to make them perfect for glitzing up my LBD on a night out.  However, I don't think I can possibly wait that long and am going to just have to wear them for a rather more glamorous than usual pyjama weekend in bed and on the sofa!  The best part is that there are 24 nail pieces, so that if I lose one there'll always be a spare to fill the bald nail space!

I also received issue two of Simply Crochet and am in absolute love with all of the patterns.  I've a feeling that my subscription will prove rather helpful in keeping me busy while I'm poorly.  My current project is a tea cosy, for which I've chosen to use bold yarn colours of red, white, blue and green.  I've already made myself the cute hair-bow, on page 86, in a slightly sparkly fuchsia pink.  Perhaps, I might wear it to my next hospital appointment with the lovely 'get well soon present' of a cream crochet collar given to me by my lovely friend, Helen, last week.  Other crochet projects include a baby daisy hair-band and a nautical-inspired heart brooch, both of which were freehand.  Helen did spend some time giving me a granny square tutorial, as I've really been struggling with these, and I am pleased to announce that my squares are beginning to come on.  I'm excited to start crocheting odd mismatched squares to make a cute blanket for my bed, but really ought to finish the huge pile of projects I still have left to start first...

Until next time.

Love and pugs,

Pretty Parcel

Today I received a package in the post. This, however, wasn't any package! This was the fabulous new love of my life. Yes, my lovely cousin bought me a quirky pug necklace from Vouxdoo! As if that wasn't enough excitement for one day, I also received a gorgeous pair of turquoise cross earrings absolutely free. Needless to say, I'm a very happy bunny this evening.
